Switzerland's R&M unveils 'most robust' fiber optic solution for extreme environments
Swiss data and communication network infrastructure solutions developer R&M recently announced that they have launched a new
fiber optic connector "HEC" for extreme outdoor applications.
It is understood that HEC is developed for 5G and
fiber optic connector of mobile communication antennas. This fiber optic connector meets the requirements of protection class IP68, Telcordia GR 3120, IEC 61753-1, and MIL-STD-883. This means the case remains water-resistant to a depth of three meters for at least seven days, the company said. The
fiber optic connectors can withstand temperatures from -40°C to +85°C and high mechanical loads, such as a tensile load of 450 N. This makes the
fiber optic connector HEC one of the "toughest" outdoor connectors in its class.
R&M claims: For this solution, in addition to fiber-to-the-antenna (FTTA), R&M also sees the potential for installing fiber optic data transmission in harsh environments. This includes broadband deployment in rural areas. The new outdoor connectors can be used to connect fiber optic cables in railways, wind power and industrial facilities, chemical plants and ports, oil platforms, mining and events.
